Prismatic Evolutions

Prismatic Evolution is mostly a reprint set, but it did provide some interesting new options for GLC. Take a look below and be sure to save these when opening Prismatic Evolution sealed products!

Grass

Budew provides grass with something it has been sorely missing in non-control builds - a way to slow down the opponent. GLC has had ever-increasing levels of speed and pressure applied to setup decks, and now standard grass decks can play Budew to put the brakes on the opponent.

Egg Mill, one of the best GLC decks, a control-oriented item-lock and supporter-lock list crafted by GhoULs, stands to abuse this card the most. Definitely snag a few of these while you’re opening your ETBs!

Water

Seaking makes for an interesting inclusion in a water Festival Grounds list by allowing the player to hit for 120 base damage and draw 4 cards. With something like Muscle band increasing damage to 160 you can hit for some great numbers! Hopefully we see some interesting new lists pop up with Seaking.

Dark

Dark has a great new addition in free retreat Sneasel! This Sneasel works well with a lot of what Dark is trying to do by getting specific Pokemon to the active slot on turn 1 - think Hoopa, Koffing, Pecharunt, etc. Be sure to grab one for your Dark deck!

Metal

70 hp and 1 retreat makes this Bronzor the new optimal Metal Bronzor. A great addition to any metal deck, 70 hp protects from early donk potential by Raging Bolt, and also helps late game horn plays from Sableye decks. I, for one, am very glad for this new Metal option!

Trainers

While the new set doesn’t offer much in the way of trainer cards, Roto-Stick gives yet another consistency search item. GLC is trending more heavily to item-based decked and Roto-Stick is another out to find something useful. This could see niche play in heavy item-based decks - looking at your Zman!

Larry’s Skill is similar to Rosa in some ways, a great GLC card, but it doesn’t offer the trainer slot. Larry’s Skill may also have niche usage in a deck such as Hitmonbros that doesn’t require much to continue its attack sequence. The other place it could see play is an Archie’s/Maxie’s deck by prepping for the next turn Supporter to revive a powerful stage 2 into play immediately.

For item-heavy deck builders, Amarys is a great addition allowing you to draw 4 more cards. Decks that already churn quickly now see many more cards and can usually guarantee they end the turn with fewer than 5 cards left. Another interesting set inclusion!
