Hello trainers! Allow me to introduce to you one, one of the very best GLC players, JeoshuaObladi! He has won copious tournaments, and at least two different tournaments with this deck, and is one of the most creative deck builders around. Today, he shares with us his unique take on Psychic with a dream ball Gardevoir and Gallade list. Enjoy 😁
I have played a lot of psychic during the first year of GLC. I won in January with Dusknoir spread, and then a Dragapult variation that has evolved since then. I think Dragapult is at his strongest point thanks to the new Astral Radiance Gallade. I always had a thing about Dream Ball in Psychic because of the many broken stage 2s that Psychic has, and you can draw a lot to setup the combo with Peonia. The first Dream Ball build I made was in early April, playing the cosmic eclipse Gallade, a Pokémon with dual type ability that can help you a lot against Colorless, Lighting and Darkness.
Dream Ball is my unique card selection that allows you to play both Gardevoir and Gallade at the same time. But if you have a slow start, you can go for an early Dragapult. The deck has some cards that enable a few turbo plays, especially compressor comboed with Klara, Giratina and Articuno, Marshadow + Scoop Up Net (disruption/draw), and Wally. Mostly it's a classic Psychic build, but after you Dream Ball the Psychic Mirage Gardevoir, you can chain attackers, especially if your Dragapult flips a tails. Flipping tails is probably the weakness of the deck because it's your prime attacker and stalling Pokémon at the same time. I guess we don’t need to talk about how dumb Dragapult is. Pot Helmet is usually played on him to avert the danger of being KOed easily. Your opponent needs to hit for 180 in order to get the KO. If they flip tails and you survive cause of it, you have Mallow & Lana restore its HP.
Thanks to Lusamine, you can win the stadium war which improves your water and grass match ups with Parallel City and Pal Pad. Pal Pad is an auto-include since the release of ASR Gallade. Recovering Mallow & Lana, Klara, Lusamine or Avery is so strong in many match ups. Sky Pillar could be misleading, but I won against Kyogre thanks to that stadium. It's situational and counterproductive, just play it in the right situation. Recently, I cut it for a weaker play, just a Mew from Unbroken Bonds. Sky Pillar played well against Kyogre with a good board state is definitely a good answer against it.
One of the weakness could be ability lock, or just a timed hex maniac on Dragapult. Playing Darkness is a grindy game, but you can manage it with some clever plays setting up math on Guzzlord. Almost everything can OHKO you in that match up, so good practice on that matchup is needed to master some situations.
